About Acocks Green
Acocks Green is an area and ward of south Birmingham, England. It is named after the Acock family, who built a large house there in 1370. Acocks Green is one of four wards making up Yardley formal district. This area began to grow in importance when a tollgate was built in 1725 on Warwick Road, near the Dolphin Inn. Today an Aldi supermarket stands on the former site of the inn.
New homes were built for the wealthy and this led to the formation of the new and much larger area of Acocks Green, which was an amalgamation of three small hamlets: Flint Green, Westley Brook and the original Acocks Green.
