Lockdown has impacted everyone in so many different ways, but not only has it affected our lives, it’s damaging many businesses. Small independent businesses are taking a lot of the hit and have been struggling since the start of the pandemic.
Instead of getting your coffee fix from chains like Starbucks or Costa, why not try somewhere new and support your local business. We have put together five independent coffee shops which you can support if you are a resident or visiting Harborne.
1. The Steam Room
The Steam Room is located just off Ravenhurst Playing Fields and is open seven days a week. Grab a freshly made brew for your long walk with the family or even grab a bite to eat. You can also buy a couple of homemade cakes and pastries, which will be perfect for an afternoon tea at home. It’s the perfect weekend destination with “specialist baristas and high grade coffee.”
2. Boo Boo Coffee
The Boo Boo coffee shop has so much on offer, including a range of breakfast and evening meals. For brunch lovers, you even have the option to build your own brunch, with vegan and veggie options. You can also add a regular hot drink and a buck’s fizz to complete the meal.
3. Caffé Nero
Caffé Nero is a small and casual coffee shop chain, which offers an outstanding menu of Italian- style light dishes as well as hot and specially blended drinks. If you’re an everyday coffee drinker, it is worth picking up a loyalty card as you’ll be given a stamp for every visit to earn a free hot drink!
4. Damascena Coffee House
Enjoy Damascena coffee from the comfort of your own home! A testimonial from Birmingham Mail reads, “most popular independent coffee shop”. Offering perfect breakfast snacks and lunch time meals delivered right to your door.
5. Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party is a funky café chain serving up breakfast, burgers, salads and baked goods with sustainable ingredients. This café was the first to ban single use cups and offer all drinks in a reusable take away cups. You have the option to bring your own or purchase a cup in sizes small, medium or large. As they no longer issue single-use takeaway cups, they save 9p per hot drink. They then round this up to 10p and donate the money to charities. Why go to Costa when you can enjoy a delicious coffee as well as donating to an important cause?
